Michael Broers

Napoleon - the film. When history and entertainment clash.

Michael Broers is a professor of Western European history at Oxford University. He is the author of the three-volume biography: Napoleon – The Decline and Fall of an Empire – 1811 through 1821; Napoleon – The Spirit of the Age; and Napoleon – Soldier of Destiny as well as many other books about revolutionary and Napoleonic Europe. He is the winner of the Grand Prix Napoléon prize. Michael’s additional areas of interests include the application of theories of cultural imperialism to European contexts in the Revolutionary-Napoleonic period, and in the relationship of regionalism and popular Catholicism to modern state-building. He has an MA from the University of St Andrews and a Ph.D. from the University of Oxford.
